Gloria Esther Rodriguez was born on November 3, 1939, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, to Natalia Vélez and Salvador Delacruz. She was the fourth of nine children, growing up surrounded by the love and strength of a large family.
In 1960, she moved to New York, where she lived with her brother Arsenio. It was there that she met the love of her life, Angel Rodriguez-a meeting that would forever change her journey. Their love was immediate and enduring, and they were united in marriage on May 18, 1963, beginning a beautiful life together built on devotion, resilience, and deep affection.
Together, they created a family filled with love and pride, raising three children: Maria, Luis, and Fernando, who were the center of Esther's world.
Gloria, lovingly known as Esther, was so much more than a sister, wife, mother, and aunt-she was the heart of her family. She opened her arms to many and became a mother figure to those who needed one, offering unconditional love, guidance, and strength. She carried this role with grace and pride, leaving a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
On April 5, 2026, Esther was called home to eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of love that will continue to live on in all of us.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Angel Rodriguez; her beloved sons, Luis Rodriguez and Fernando Rodriguez; her cherished grandchildren, Ashley Torres, Cristina Rodriguez, Jasmine Torres, and Christopher Torres; and her precious great-grandchildren, Annalise Vasquez and Isaiah Fernandez. She also leaves behind her dear siblings, Ernesto Delacruz, Edwin Delacruz, and Carmen Delacruz, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Esther will be remembered for her strength, her wisdom, and the way she loved so deeply and so selflessly. Her words carried comfort, her presence brought peace, and her love knew no limits. She was truly beautiful, inside and out, and anyone who had the blessing of knowing her felt the warmth of her spirit.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that heaven has gained a truly beautiful angel, and her love will remain with us always.
